Ozzy Osbourne’s Final Performance Was the Goodbye No One Saw Coming

On July 5, 2025, Ozzy Osbourne made a surprise appearance at Back to the Beginning, a massive charity concert in Birmingham honoring the legacy of Black Sabbath. No one knew it at the time, but it would be his final performance. Seventeen days later, on July 22, Ozzy died at home, surrounded by his family, after a long and public battle with Parkinson’s disease and lingering complications from a 2018 spinal injury. He was 76.

Now, that performance reads as a living farewell. Ozzy returned to the city where it all began, standing before a roaring hometown crowd alongside his Sabbath bandmates and a lineup of heavy metal royalty. With bands like Metallica, Tool, Pantera, and Guns N’ Roses playing in his honor, the night raised a record-breaking $190 million for Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice—with every artist donating their time.

It didn’t feel like a typical concert—it felt like a celebration of life in real time. Fans didn’t realize they were witnessing his goodbye, but looking back, everything about it—his presence, the crowd, the city—felt like a final bow only Ozzy could deliver.

🫶 Artists Doing Good

Yungblud Covers Black Sabbath’s “Changes” for Charity—and Earns Ozzy’s Blessing

Yungblud just turned the biggest moment of his life into something even bigger: impact. The 27-year-old rocker dropped a live cover of Black Sabbath’s “Changes,” recorded during Back to the Beginning, the historic charity concert and Ozzy Osbourne’s final show. His version, featuring Nuno Bettencourt, Frank Bello, ii, and Adam Wakeman, delivered raw emotion and powerhouse vocals in front of 40,000 fans at Birmingham’s Villa Park, becoming one of the best covers to come out in a long time.

All proceeds from the track are being donated to Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorns Children’s Hospice—causes close to Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s hearts. “Let’s raise some f*cking money,” Yungblud said of the release. The single also comes with a touching behind-the-scenes video of Yungblud gifting Ozzy a piece of custom jewelry and thanking him for everything. Ozzy’s response? “He did an amazing job. I couldn’t have done it better myself.”

Turns out, the Prince of Darkness isn’t the only one with rock royalty in his blood.

Louder Than Hell: Ozzy’s Guinness World Record Moment

On June 11, 2010, Ozzy Osbourne turned a Dodgers-Angels baseball game into the world’s loudest metal moment. During the fifth inning at Dodger Stadium, Ozzy led 52,000 fans in a unified, minute-long scream as part of Scream for a Cure!, breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest and loudest outdoor scream. The event doubled as the launch for his album Scream and raised money for ThinkCure!, a cancer charity close to Ozzy’s heart after Sharon Osbourne’s own battle with the disease. The Finnish Scouts may have reclaimed the record years later, but for one glorious inning, metal ruled the diamond—and Ozzy’s scream echoed louder than any stadium chant in history. Read more here
